WILD IN THE Woods 2009
Friday night we are sitting around the campfire enjoying our "Pink" stuff,
when someone says "hey they have another camp fire down there".
It takes all of us a moment to digest this, because we all know by Park
rules you can only have ONE fire in the only fire pit at which we are
currently sitting.
Then we realize that the fire is next to a Van! Someone yells Holy Crap my
wife is asleep in the tent in front of the burning VAN!
15 people scatter in 15 different directions to get
shovels and buckets.
The generator was placed next to the van, and the gasoline also placed
next to the gen. The Generator caught on fire, melting the plastic gas can.
The gasoline flaring up was what we all saw at once.
Everyone runs down, and with out direction, use shovels and pans to throw
dirt onto the gasoline part of the fire, and use buckets to toss water
into the burning Van.
The person in the tent was carried out of the tent to safety. We managed to
put out the fire, in apx 7 min, and 15 minutes before the Fire Dept arrived.
As the pictures show the Van was fully engulfed. The Fire chief asked
me at least 3 times "how did you put this out?" with the reply, "shovels and
buckets". His response, "you guys are awesome!"
As this is a National Forrest, we were very lucky, as little more wind or our
slower response time, and we could have had very big Forrest Fire!
Club Jacket
Our Club had a Patch made for all of our Wild in the Woods
Fire Fighters. If you see someone wearing this patch, shake
their hand and thank them for saving a National Forrest.
Where's my patch?
